i agree with su, but i think it also indicates that we've moved (or are moving) into a more co-operative phase. there was a time when it would have been really frowned upon for a pakeha to direct a maori story or attempt to speak about maori, & even earlier times when pakeha did speak about maori but in quite a different way & maori had comparatively little voice. i would hope that we're now in a more secure position, where we can speak about each other & work together respectfully.

At the risk of burnt fingers, no. We can live amidst each other, we can infect and colonize each other's spaces, we can learn from each other, but we can never claim to 'be' each other, for to do this homogenizes histories, beliefs, genealogies and the very things that these films try to teach us.
